JAMESTOWN PROJECT
Jamestown is the oldest suburb of Accra and it was the first location the British settled in as they colonised Ghana, then called the Gold Coast. It even earned the title of British Accra but still remains one of the most deprived communities of the capital with an estimated population of around 82,000 people.
A recent report by Edulink states that 40% of girls and 20% of boys between the ages of 15-20 have engaged in sexual intercourse with many resulting in teenage pregnancy.
In our efforts to impact change in the Jamestown community, Gilgal Community Care Incorporated is aiming to construct the first ever safe space in the community to reach out to children between the ages of 7-20.
This project will consist of a multipurpose court for basketball and soccer, a library, an equipment room, an office and a vocational space for teenage mothers to learn a trade.
